Review RuhrNachrichten:

A new crime novelist and a new fresh investigator from Sweden – in ”Der Mörder und das Mädchen” (Killer deal) Sofie Sarenbrant offers a perfect start for a new, exciting crime series. Very promising. Gladly more of it.”

5 stars: This thriller of Sofie Sarenbrant really impressed me. Super exiting with short chapters and frequently changing scenes. For me this author is like Arne Dahl or Hjort & Rosenfeldt, whom I especially like to read. The end points to a further case for the sympathetic team around the investigator Emma Sköld. This is my new recommendation for all fans of Scandinavian crime.

Review Book Dilettante:
Well written with well developed characters, the book tackles sensitive themes of domestic abuse, loss, and revenge. It ends with a cliff hanger, a plot hook that makes you want to read the next in the series.
Objective rating: 4.5/5

Review Shelf Awareness:

Killer Deal makes a great entry point for those unfamiliar with Swedish crime novels, and is sure to lead readers to authors like Henning Mankell and Kjell Eriksson. This entertaining blend of family drama, murder and real estate is reminiscent of Camilla Läckberg's mystery novels, and will hold any crime-loving reader's interest; they'll eagerly await the next Sofie Sarenbrant to be translated.
Discover: Killer Deal is an engaging mystery starring Detective Emma Sköld by one of Sweden's most popular crime authors.

Review Midvest Book Review:
Sofie Sarenbrant has established herself as one of Sweden's most popular crime fiction authors. In "Killer Deal" she has once again demonstrated her complete master of the mystery genre. Ably translated into English by Paul Norlen, this Stockholm Text edition of "Killer Deal" is very highly recommended for community library Mystery/Suspense collections. For the personal reading lists of mystery buffs it should be noted that "Killer Deal" is also available in a Kindle edition ($9.99).

Q&A Crime by the book:
Crime by the book: I’m going to be recommending KILLER DEAL as the perfect crime fiction beach read this summer. It’s fast-paced, engaging, addictive, and has a killer ending! When can US readers expect to learn what happens to Emma after the revelation at the end of KILLER DEAL?
Sofie: I am so happy about that, thank you! I hope US readers will like KILLER DEAL as much as you do, and of course I hope that the next book will be released next year! I will keep you updated :-)

Portland Book Review:
There are 400 pages in this book with 105 chapters, which makes the focus of each chapter succinct. The vast majority of the book is written in third person with the narration providing only enough information to enhance the reader’s understanding of the characters and story while not getting lost in minutiae. Scattered through the book are a number of first person chapters, which add to the mystery. The story, its presentation, and flow were quite entertaining. The only criticism is being left at the end of the novel with questions, which is mildly unsatisfying. Could it be part of a lead-in to the next book?
Rating: ★★★★

Review Fresh Fiction:

The ending of KILLER DEAL is a cliffhanger I did not see coming. Ms. Sarenbrant is a sterling crime story teller, touching on meaningful topics such as domestic abuse, career/motherhood issues, friendships, revenge and betrayals. I did not like Cornelia and found her cold, distant and not capable of good decisions. It is no surprise that Sofie Sarenbrant is Queen of Scandinavian Crime novels. KILLER DEAL is her first novel translated into English. I look forward to her next offering. I enjoyed this riveting thriller that sneaked up on me at the final page. WOW!

Publishers Weekly:
Harrowing scenes of the three women’s various trials in the context of contemporary real estate maneuvers, alternating with the first-person reflections of a psychopathic killer, make this an absorbing addition to Sweden’s fictional portraits of a welfare-state society gone hopelessly wrong, despite its weak ending.

Reviews by Amos Lassen:
This is an easy and quick read. To tell you anymore would ruin it so I will just say that this is a peasant escape from the real world.
